Color me impressed

July 25, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Six weeks of Teen Summer Reading down, five left, and you guys have already written well over 250 reviews. 272 to be exact. WOW.

So, the question remains: What color am I dying my hair? What I’ve been hearing thus far is PURPLE with PINK or ORANGE bangs. Think about it. The actual deed will happen in September.

And don’t stop reading and reviewing, as there are MANY more PRIZES left to win!

You should be dancin’, yeah

July 18, 2008 · 2 Comments

Hey party people!

I spent an hour this week setting up, testing and taking down the new Cobalt Flux Dance Dance Revolution dance pads. They are very heavy and very cool. I picked up DDR Max 2, but haven’t spent any time with the game, so at Monday’s game night we’ll get to know it better. No pressure. If you want nothing to do with “dancing”, that’s fine, too. I picked up a new “party” game called Charoodle. Should be interesting. Plus we’ll have all the regulars (Apples to Apples, wii, cards, etc.) – Jen

Play Games!
Monday, July 21st
6-7:30pm in the library lecture room
Pizza provided

Crazy reading!

July 15, 2008 · Leave a Comment

I’ve received 65 reviews at the Central Library alone this week! And there is a lot of the week left. Woot. You all are crazy with your reading! Keep it up!

Many of you read and review, but Bair has read (and reviewed) over 40 titles. WTG! Anyone up for some friendly competition? I know that at least one of you can handle 50 books this summer. Let the reading continue!

Week 4 – Teen Summer Reading

July 11, 2008 · Leave a Comment

We’ve just completed the 4th week of TSR. We are mid-way through and our numbers rock! So far almost 50 of you have read and reviewed 145 titles. I’ve awarded 12 weekly prizes valued at $10 each. Don’t stop now! Keep reading for a chance to win a weekly prize (if you haven’t already) and one of two killer grand prizes (to be awarded at the end of August).

Plus, check out all the submitted reviews in the teen space at either the Central Library or the Fairhaven Branch. It’s a great way to find out what others are reading and enjoying (or not enjoying).

I hope you are all enjoying your summer!

July is HOT

July 2, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Sometimes it’s just too hot to think. Here’s a list of when stuff is happening at BPL in July so all you have to do is figure out what day it is. (I know this can be difficult, but it is not impossible. Just believe.)

  • Anime Night is Wednesday, July 9 and begins at 5:30 in the Dodson Room in the Children’s library. We will be watching xxxHOLIC. Visit operationanime.com for more on this title. With pizza.
  • Teen Advisory Council (TAC) meets Thursday, July 10 from 4:30 to 5:30. This group figures out how the library can be better for teens. I bring cookies. Email me if you would like me to send you an application.
  • Play games on Monday, July 21. I’ve just ordered metal Dance Dance Revolution pads, so if things go right, we’ll be dancing (or clumsily attempting to dance) the night away. Plus open wii play and other fun amusements. And PIZZA.
  • The Teens Read book group discusses Gifts by Ursula K. LeGuin on Tuesday, July 22 from 2:30 to 3:30 in the Dodson Room. Hold your copy (book or audiobook) today and join us for a no-pressure round table conversation. And snacks.
  • Metamorphosis – Teen Summer Reading 2008 continues through August. See the link at the top of the page for complete details.

Upcoming events:

August 9 – Game tournament – either wii SSB Brawl or PS2 Dance Dance Revolution. Have a preference? Email me!

September 20 – 2nd annual Twilight Prom! Celebrate the release of the fourth book (Breaking Dawn is out on August 2 – you can put a hold on it now.) Stay tuned for more details.

September 27 – 2nd annual Bellcon – Bellingham’s only comic book convention. Visit the official Bellcon myspace for more info.

October (all month) – Whatcomics – celebrate comics and graphic novels! We will have manga workshops and a month-long comics competition. More to come.
