Unshelved Book Club

Every Sunday, Unshelved publishes a “Book Club” cartoon summary of a book. Lots of them are teen books. I’ll be posting them in upcoming Shelve It!’s. (I’ve tried to post one here, but I’m apparently in doofus mode and can’t figure out how to make it work.)

If you don’t feel like waiting for the next Shelve It! (due out in a week or two), check them out here:

IPL Teen Space Website

Check out the Internet Public Library’s Teen Space  for  information to help you with life, school, friends, and work. Not just for homework and “issues”, this site offers “The Procrastinator” with tons of ways to waste time (do you really need help in that department?) and opportunities to flex your creative muscles like the with the “Poetry Wiki”. Spend a few minutes exploring this terrific site!

Guys Read

So you’re a guy and it’s cold and snowy/rainy and everything on tv is a rerun and you’re tired of your video games and you’re bored crazy. Reading a book might not be on your “kill-boredom” list, but…

Have I got a website for you!

Guys Read (www.guysread.com) is a website designed to help guys find good books. Created by Jon Scieszka (he wrote Math Curse and Squids will be Squids and lots more) to help boys find stuff they like to read, because he gets that most of the books you have to read are not the books that make you like reading. You can check out other guys’ recommendations or ask “GUY” (aka a snazzy search engine) what he thinks you might like.

Maybe you’ll be a little happier this winter.

Readergirlz rocks!

Readergirlz.com lets you “meet” your favorite authors. Recently, they hosted live chats with Stephanie Meyer, Meg Cabot, Anne Brashares, Holly Black, and many, many other authors (31 total in October). Founded by teen fiction authors, Janet Lee Carey, Lorie Ann Grover, Dia Calhoun, and Justina Chen Headley, readergirlz has the inside scoop from the best teen authors around. Check out their “Manifesta” below.

From readergirlz.com:

So here’s our official readergirlz Manifesta: what we stand for, what we believe, what we promise YOU:

* Readergirlz is about having serious fun while talking about books with the author and your friends!

* Readergirlz is about getting the inside scoop about why the novel was written, the tears and joys and real-world angst that the author has lived and layered into her story.

* Readergirlz is about reading great books to get to know yourself, your friends, and yes, even your mother, better.

* Readergirlz is about celebrating strong girls in books who’ve got the guts to dream.

* Readergirlz is about reaching out to others based on what you’ve read.

* And most of all, readergirlz is about inspiring girls to make history of their own!
